Ylana Maya - Character Development

Myers-Briggs Personality Indicators Upon researching character development my attention has been brought to the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator , a psychologal theory on the multiple different possible personalities. So it is important when writing up your characters, that your reader can truly connect with those characters, they need to be somewhat relatable and have an aspect of realism to them. If a character is all perfect and all knowing, that is not as relatable as a character who has it all going for them but doesn't realise their own strength, or better still a clutsy and broken character who can't do anything right other than paint! So looking at the four different aspects of the Myers-Briggs Indicator. A person can be predominantly: Introverted or Extroverted Sensing or Intuitive Thinking or Feeling Judging or Perceptive Here is a brief outline of each personality type: THE DETECTIVE - ISTJ The Detective tends to be a very responsible , honourable a

Ylana Maya - The Dancing Fool

Surrender to divine illusions. Mask unveiled, heart of gold. The song of a story yet untold. Pure anticipation, freedom discovered... A fire is born, a quest mapped out before the lovers eyes, a grand surprise, hidden by deceit and lies. Maybe she was too much for him, maybe she had to be sacrificed for him... Her innocence restored so she may flow through this new world. The darling prince, claimed her heart, a touch of their hands, a glance of wonder and lust within his silver-blue eyes, the charm of his smile, the dimples in his cheeks, the fire that warmed her soul, his to keep. She gave herself to him through and through and she wished for nothing in return. Be your most incredulous self. Let the tale of the lady and her masculine weakness show you true love, from a distance, from the stars up above. Dancing in chaos, embracing the calmness of the storm, forlorn is thee, in captivity, under his spell, she did not wish to be free... Can't you see that there is noone else, n

Ylana Maya - Ruling Consumerism

Unnatural Happiness Steering off from the path, no no no... Stay on track, do not be dragged back into the masses of lonely souls searching blindly for more. What do you want? What is your goal? What do you have to show for all the work you've done? We need more, we need evidence, we need you to prove your worth by providing us with something physical, show us now that you are a correct individual, show us that you will become the perfect brainwashed citizen. Like that car? Work your arse off and get it. Want that new phone? It will cost you an arm and a leg. I know the phone costs as much as a 2 week holiday, but at least with the phone you'll have something to show for it and not just wasted memories of beautiful adventures. You must want and have something you can hold in your hand, a brand to brainwash your fellow man, a brand which will make all worth your while. Or at least create the illusion of success. Never mind the idea of freedom, because the only freedom you rea

Ylana Maya - The Violet Pheonix

The Violet flame, Protection, but destruction just the same, The high flyer, supreme diver Flying higher and higher, Lighting up the skies, with divine intimate light, Shining bright, an eternal flame of creation, Of inspiration and passion The breath of the dragon, The calm of chaos, The dearest crest of divinity, She who flies fearlessly through the night, Fighting off the demons of darkness, Burning the hands of the unworthy, Blessing and protecting the worthy. She, the Violet phoenix, one of a kind, Flying the dark abyss, lighting up all for the deserving to see, And finally, no longer caged... She was free

Ylana Maya - Senseless Daily Ramble

She had carried her weary body through the land of the zombies, she had switched her mind off from all disaster, she had decided that there was no point wasting her efforts on fueling her fears and her insecurities anymore. She wanted to do more. To be more. And for that she needed to accept the changes occuring within her. This did not mean dumbing herself down, it meant finding something worth living for and not sweating the small stuff. The world as she knew it was falling apart but before it did she was going to enjoy it to the fullest. She didn't want to be stuck shrouded in darkness anymore, she wanted to walk the path of light, but without taking anything too seriously... This was the problem with everyone, she could see it now... Everyone taking themselves too seriously, she was especially guilty of this. Looking at life from the viewpoint of an audience viewing a play orchestrated right in front of their eyes. The good the bad, the evil sisters, the fairy godmother...

Ylana Maya - Beauty in life, acceptance in death

The now is enough Everywhere she looked, everything was bright. The cool breeze brushed against her cheeks, making her relax, a smile on her face. The birds outside sang their songs of beauty and life... Spring was on it's way and wonder was returning to the air. The sky was clear, painted with various colours, pinks, purples, greens and a beautiful shade of blue. She looked around, she could feel the love radiating on and through the world around her. All is well, all is going to be fine. No need to worry, no need to fret, no need to obsess over the darkness. She felt whole in her emptiness and her breath remained calm and steady, the cool air flowing into her lungs with ease and clarity returning to her world. If she could freeze time, she would choose now, in that moment. Everything which surrounded her was bursting with light and love and she did not feel any anxiety for the future. She knew in these moments, every thing was going to be alright. Keep going she told herse

Ylana Maya - Fearful Sleeping

Every night was the same for little Jennifer, she always struggled to go to sleep in that room... The surface of her skin would become cold, she would feel each individual hair on her arms stand tall, her breathing would deepen, her heart rate would beat at the rhythm of shamanic drums which would push her deeper and deeper into a trance of dispair and discomfort. She would feel a pressure on her chest and she would be unable to move, not even a finger. All she could move was her eyes. When she did open her eyes she would see shadows in her periphery and it would usually lead to more disparity so she had learned to keep her eyes shut and remain calm... She knew how it went... The first time was by far the scariest... "Here goes...", she said in preparation.

Ylana Maya - Journey Update

Mental roadblocks The hardest thing about going down the path of a writer for me is the sitting down and concentrating and focusing and being able to catch up with my thoughts quick enough to be able to write the ideas down before they pop out of existence. I'm thinking the best way to tackle this issue is to have a wire which monitors my brain activity attached to a keyboard to collect and produce my thoughts into a visual format, so I can read over and edit it with ease. I'm kidding of course, I do not have access to that kind of technology... Pep talk to self: "So... Quit yo' Jibber Jabber, Ylana! Roll your sleeves up and get stuck in. You're concentration and focus will improve, just keep focusing, keep contributing to your future self and her progress. You CAN do it, don't let anybody stop you!" Thank you, self... "Thank me in 5 years, now ain't the time for recognition and praisal! Write, write, write! And if you're not writing, at

Ylana Maya - Unmasking

Peculiarity in life's breath Solitude, the true home of peace? It is in solitude, where all becomes clear. All darkness of self, all understanding, the messages of fate, where are we to go, what are we to do? Just breathe, fate knows the way, follow her... She will be your North star if you just let her guide you. More can be done in silence and solitude and loneliness can be eased through a pleasant conversation with yourself, and let's be fair, we always get the responses we want from ourselves. This is not a post about becoming an author although maybe in some ways, this will apply to the results of my endeavours. As I'm getting older and older, I am getting more and more abstract and less connected to the world as it is... I don't feel I can really create a right connection with anyone... Everyone in this world is out for themselves, and this seriously hurts to realise... For me to integrate with the world... I have to join in with the selfish culture... I

Ylana Maya - A Warped View

A world held by fate, the fate of the gods... Time and time again, when will it come to an end? The nature of reality, it is pointless to contemplate, just know to create. That's all we are, creators and destroyers. We create our lives, our personalities, our relationships, our art, our theories, we... It's all created by existence itself.... And then after a little while of marvelling at what we've created we destroy everything we work so hard to create just so the cycle will repeat, this is infinity, this is why people have been killing themselves, they have simply become fed up of this infinite spiral leading seemingly nowhere. This is apparently what it means to be a god, you get to create and enter an infinite cycle of creation and destruction, to some... This is hell... To others this is true heaven. So freeing a realisation but in truly realising the truth of nature we come to a point where all our efforts seem somewhat futile... Build the world up and evolve on

Ylana Maya - Becoming unhinged

A crazy writing ramble - Tales of the battles to come Silence is golden to some, it is deafening to others. The key principles of majhah are as goes: *Do not be so quick to judge the heathen beast For it is she who will help you find release and exstacy *You of whome do not see through the webs of fate can not undertake the glory that awaits *Be not disturbed by the fate of this world, it is merely a blim in the cosmos and as such its fate is sealed and unchangeable *Be only a beacon of hope for the lives of many, treachery and tragedy, a calamity at best. The soul is entrenched in the sea of mystery *Believe not the word, but recognise its power *In silence the truth will be known. If ye who read, risk to be seen, then temptuous is the path of the seer. And so the gates to oblivion are to open and unleash that which ragnorak fears most. Divine purity in the flesh. The naive queen of the west. It is she who will free the masses from their assets and reclaim the lands in

Ylana Maya - Under 'Da' Sea!

A Hopeless Romantics Attempt at Fanfic - Adventure to Atlantis Many of you reading this will be very familiar with the story of the little mermaid... But there's a lot the story tellers did not make known... Ariel was not just a pretty little defenseless mermaid, she was actually a siren. Now, we all know the stories of sirens and sailors, the sirens would use their vocal power to captivate men lost at sea, only to seduce them and drag them into the deepest darkest trenches, void of light and warmth. Later, releasing their clutches on those poor unfortunate lost souls, just to see them struggle their way back to shore, that is if they'd be able to withstand the journey. Now, now. Don't be so quick to judge Ariel, she did not understand the darkness of her underwater sisters, she didn't wish to hurt the poor sailors.... Ariel was a very naive little mermaid, who was infallibly in love with the idea of falling in love... This sweet little siren wanted so much to shar

Ylana Maya - The Real Life Adonis

Naivety at its finest - One whiskey after the other... And another... Lilith woke that morning feeling a little more than tender... A product of overexertion from the night before. Her and her newly acquainted potential partner had established a beautiful level of rapport! They were up in the night singing and dancing joyously, captured by the moment, imitating the actors projected on the screen of the TV monitor. They laughed and exchanged flirtatious glances frequently... Many glasses of whiskey were drank... One shot then another... Then one thing led to another... As such, Lilith did not wake at her house that morning. No no, surprise surprise! She awoke in his house... And of course in his bed.. Fell on his phallace yet again... This was the second time she had embodie d the role of naivety when it came to her interactions with this gentleman. She was a fool, but at the very least, she enjoyed being swayed by him. She felt mildly shameful, but chose not to regret her action

Ylana Maya - Why it is necessary for humans to ground

A Peculiar Profile - The cosmic reality of the Rarr... What is the Rarr you ask? Or rather Who? The Rarr, my beautiful readers, is a little etheric ball of light, whom of which exists within the realms of the Fae... This overly excitable and energetic little ball of illuminescense has a tendency to bounce around from place to place with much enthusiasm. The Rarr takes great enjoyment in following a solid routine of no routine... That's right... Similar to the pattern of numbers in the decimal sequence of pi... The Rarr never repeats it's sequences twice and because of this the Rarr finds itself in some beautifully exciting, psychedelic yet chaotic situations... Often times, provoking the chaos in those very situations!! Now, if the rarr were a human, that human would most certainly get into some very difficult places and definitely would not be able to get out of those situations with much ease! After all, we humans have to deal with more boring, trivial, mundane, ground-b

Ylana Maya - The everflowing future wife

A Faerie Tale - The River and the Gnome King One bitter winter morning, the Gnome King made his way to the forest and sat by a grand Oak tree beside the everflowing river... On this day, the Gnome King was in fact fishing for his future wife and well... Quite embarrassingly he mistook the flow of the river for that future wife! He spoke to his reflection in the waters, he spoke about taking action in the rivers flow... He believed that the flow was why he would find that wife, for much of life was sustained within the flow of a river and he knew his goal and if there was one place he could find his future wife, he knew it would most definitely be within that river... What he thought to be his future wife that day was actually his fishing wire getting caught under a rock and pushed into place by the flow of the river, he tried to reel her in. Muttering under his breath, "Come on... I've got you... I know I have!" To the Gnome Kings humble surprise, the fishing wire

Ylana Maya - The pen is mightier than the sword!

A Tale of New Beginnings - The Flow of Adventure There was once a girl very confused about the world... She was a very intelligent being, with an impressively broad mind and a curious set of interests... She found understanding within; and easily developed her abilities towards most things... She was talented but also misdirected. She could grasp complex mathematics, she understood very elaborate scientific theories, she could understand the complexities of human behaviour and interaction, she could also find truth in pretty much everyone and everything, she saw patterns and connections in absolutely everything.... Her mind was so open and her possibilities limitless. As amazing as this must sound and look to those who hear her story and see her talents... It was a crippling experience for her... She would frequently become lost in her world of unlimited understanding and inner knowledge... She felt isolated by her expansive mind, because in this world you can not do it all, all
