Ylana Maya - Day 10 "I do believe in Dragons, I do, I do!"
Day 10
Try to convince your reader that the mythological creature of your choosing exists.
Why is it that in so many cultures... Chinese, Welsh, Indian, Japanese... there is this recognition of dragons? Where did the idea for the dragon even come from?
I often wonder this. When you look at the 12 zodiac animals within the Chinese culture... 11 are known, real, recognised animals... But then... there is the dragon sign... Unless they're referring to those little bearded dragons you can get as pets but they're hardly something to celebrate every year for a new years party... maybe the bearded dragons are all that remains of the original dragons... but over the years they've genetically evolved to be smaller, for whatever reason.
Why, in Wales have we decided to put a red dragon on our flag? Who came up with this design and what were they thinking? Something must have inspired this image of the dragon!
On top of this there is evidence that even the ancient Greeks have considered the existence of such a creature.
Is it possible that dragons did in fact, at some point fly through the skies of this world? And if they did... did they actually breath fire, were they actually covered in armoured scales... how long did dragons even live for?
And if they did exist... what happened to them all?
What is to say that some of the fossils we have found in the ground, of which we have placed together like jigsaw puzzles; aren't the fossils of dragons and not just fossils of what we've called 'dinosaurs'. There's every chance we have put the fossils together incorrectly... maybe even mixed up a lot of the puzzle.
Why do so many cultures recognise the dragon as both a symbol of creation and destruction... Where did this image even come from in our conscious minds...
Dragons are portrayed in the ancient mythologies of most cultures and were associated with the Great Mother, the water god or the warrior sun god. They were believed to be both beneficial and destructive, being all-powerful creatures of the universe.
But if this is the case where have they all gone? How would such a creature be killed off?
Under the SEA
"The dragons live in the bottom of the sea where they guard vast treasure hoards that, most often, consist of pearls. Their breath is that of rain clouds and thunder as well as lightning, hence, the fire-breathing monster. Some traditions believe that misers assume the form of dragons by constantly gloating over their treasures."
Given this information... then maybe the reason we're yet to find the fossils to support the claims that dragons existed because we've been unable to get deep enough in our oceans to dig up such fossils...
It is true after all that we are yet to venture to the deepest parts of our ocean... The pressure is far too great...
Personally... I think we'd be fools to deny the possibility of such creatures having ever existed.
I hope I have at least managed to peak your intrigue.
I believe this topic is worth more consideration.
Thank you for your time and attention...
(This is definitely a topic I will be revisiting at some point!)
