Ylana Maya - Day 3 "Fluffy the Sphynx"

Day 3
Now send your character to his or her grumpy grandmother's house for a visit. Write the scene of your character's arrival.

Sana glanced out of the car window at the blurred forestry on her way to Granny Dot’s home that afternoon. Family duty was one of the most tedious lifestyle necessities in her opinion, but yet here she was, on her way to her demented grandmothers home like a good little red-riding hood. She didn’t very much like people, granny was no exception to that rule. All humans were pretty much the same from Sana’s point of view, we all bleed, shit, cry and we’re all so darn needy.
The last time Sana had seen her grandmother, she had been force fed tea cakes and jammy dodgers by the thousands, she had been made to sit on the old net curtain style sofa chair, sipping at a china cat mug of tea and feigning interest at Granny’s absolute shock that her good friend Dorris had fallen down the stairs and broke her fragile little old lady hips, resulting in 5 weeks in hospital. Granny seemed absolutely distressed by this. Sana didn’t understand the fear but hey she seldom understood fear as an emotion in general.
No… this was not Sana’s idea of time well spent, but her mother insisted that Granny needed the company and it was their duty as family to be there for her. The good thing about visiting her grandmother is seeing the 3 lovely cats; Patch, a black and white moggy; Whiskers, a very docile little tabby and lastly an ironically named Sphynx called Fluffy.  The cats made every visit that little bit more tolerable, as it meant Sana had something to focus on while she was pretending to listen to her Grandmothers incessant rambling. Sana loved cats, she loved the colour of their little paw pads and noses. She liked how cats never seemed to give a shit about anyone or anything. Unlike dogs, which were overly loyal and required so much attention. Cats were much more relate-able to Sana, with them being such independent and solitary creatures; which only served to make them more likeable.
Sana and her mother pulled up at the driveway next to Granny Dot’s little bungalow. Fluffy looked out through the window of the living room and immediately stood up and began rubbing her head against the window in recognition of the car. Once the car was parked Sana and her mother started towards the front door, as they approached they could hear Granny talking to someone inside her home.

“Stop rubbing against the window you strange little creature, you’re getting smudge marks all over the glass!... Down from there, you’ll knock over the ornaments…”

Sana sighed deeply in an attempt to brace herself.
They entered into the house to see a purple faced, Granny Dot half climbing the armchair in front of the fireplace trying to shoo an overly energetic and bald fluffy off the mantelpiece. Fluffy looked up and glanced at Sana as she walked in through the front hallway, she jumped down from the mantelpiece; bringing one of the china ornaments with her as her tail hooked around it. She proceeded to trot towards Sana, ignoring Granny Dot's annoyance at her disobedience which made Sana smile to herself as she frog squatted to say hello to her favourite little mad cat.

“I’ve had enough of that little bald bastard of a cat, all she’s done for the past 3 weeks is yowl around the house at the most inappropriate times. I don't know what she wants from me... She keeps knocking my ornaments over and breaking everything and weeing behind the TV. I don't know what the heck is wrong with her and she keeps..."

Sana sighed at the consistent and boring rambling coming from her grandmothers thin decrepit lips. She switched off and began unspoken communication with Fluffy the sphynx. It was not long before Fluffy had settled down and cuddled up on Sana’s lap. It was quite clear to Sana that Fluffy didn't very much like Granny Dot... Yet another similarity, Sana thought to herself.
Sana stopped her grandmother in her tracks, "I'll take Fluffy home with me if she's too much hassle Granny!"

Comments

  1. This is quite relatable!

we should be aware of what animals needs are rather than their own, it could make the person who is annoyed by the animal happier, if they are willing to listen and observe the animal or even person that is suffering.

must take Nero for walkies later.

    love it
